7. eFinder Tools

This module, an exclusive from ALPA of Switzerland, contains two tools:

  • 3D level that can be used with ALPA cameras or any other camera. This tools requires a gyroscope-equipped device, such as the iPhone 4, iPod touch 4 or iPad 2.
  • Parallax correction and shift simulation for ALPA cameras only. This tool requires an ALPA iPhone Holder hardware.

eFinder Tools is a built-in module in ALPA eFinder. For other editions you can purchase it separately in the Viewfinder Module Store.

As you can see on the screen shot above, eFinder Tools adds two icons onto the main screen. Tapping the left one brings up the 3D level, while tapping the right one leads to the parallax correction/shift simulation tool. These icons are displayed depending on which context you are: the 3D level icon is visible if you have a compatible gyroscope-equipped device, as well as the parallax/shift tool is just visible if the currently active camera is an ALPA model.

The parallax/shift icon also have two indicators (not visible on the screen shot above). The icon will show the letter P when parallax correction is activated, and the letter S when shift simulation is active. Note that both parallax correction and shift simulation is a per camera setting (i.e. you can set different values for different camera setups).

Both tools are designed to be used with the iPhone/iPod residing in the ALPA iPhone Holder on top of your tripod-mounted camera. The 3D level however can be used in "freehand" mode, without mounting your device.

Important: any change in the current camera setup (e.g. changing focal lengths, the back or switching on/off ZoomFrame) will reset the parallax/shift values dialed in for that camera.
